Total Ways of Communicating with Family, Friends, and Business Contacts

Communications Habits of Affluent AmericansAs this slide highlights, the 235 million adults in the United States report that they use many different ways of communicating with their families, friends and business contacts. Among all four groups of consumers, web-based ways, by far, are the most used means (about nine in ten report they use digital means). Traditional ways (phone and in person) are still being used but less frequently than web-based ways. The more recent innovations (Twitter, blogs, etc.) are now being used by about one fifth of all consumers (between 17% and 20%).

As household income increases, adults who report using digital ways and LinkedIn increases among the $75,000+and $250, 000+ groups but declines somewhat among the $500,000+ group (most notably for Facebook).
